>>I pity you and I will pray that the God of the universe will reveal himself to you, a wicked sinner, just like the rest of us.<<
Well I do understand and have felt in great depth the emotional content of your religious beliefs. It's the reason I'm sometimes so harsh. I understand those feelings all too well. I do thank you for a pretty good example of precisely what I was talking about. Do you expect this degredation of your spirit (sinner stuff) to be just flushed from your consciousness without any effort on your part or do you think that Christ would be more interested in a process by which you restore to yourself and others your own sense of dignity and self worth? Just a question.
>>If you don't want to discuss this on religious grounds, fine. Let's talk science! What do you consider to be the "roots" of this argument over the rightness/ wrongness of abortion?<<
Well science in the image of Daedalus generally isn't interested in rightness and wrongness. Competitive evolution perhaps is generally more rapid than cooperative evolution (the most rapid innovations in technology were usually spawned by war). But with humanity currently dying at the rate of 100 million people per year perhaps the best solution to the resolution of the suffering embodied in creation was to move things forward as rapidly as possible. My view, take it or leave it, it makes no difference to me.
I don't think ultimately abortion can be divorced from the question of why death exists at all. The natural bilological processes of conception are somewhat metaphorical of competitive evolution. A bunch of males competing to conquer the single planet.
I was touched personally by this issue when I lost a baby brother who was no bigger than a human hand. I truely doubt that very many people think abortion is a good thing. I do think that scripture has tied your hands in dealing with this issue.
Others know the statistics far better than I but I've heard that poverty and self alienation are no doubt a big factor in teen pregnancies, but we do little to solve them. In fact the rich just keep getting richer. Fear as a control mechanism doesn't seem to work very well. Russia by the way has the largest rate of abortion in the world but we collectively do very little to assist them, in fact I remember we went bargain shopping thru their space program and gave them very little in return. Not sure I have much else to offer here.
