Subj:  A different perspective...            94-04-07 23:47:46 EDT

This has been a really stimulating debate for me to read, as it has been many many years since I converted the anger of my closet into fulltime activism.  There is a lot of intensity here and I like it because it says, that despite all the differences and even anger, that you folks really do care about this community.   I burned out on politics, withdrew, and did what I could by speaking to young people in classrooms about what it's like to be gay.

I think that it's important to remember that the real battle is being fought in the hearts of the people we know and the people we love.  It's not enough that we free ourselves from the bonds in which we have been placed, but we must also free those who hate us the most, for they too are suffering, for homophobia is at it's most elemental level a form of self hatred.

This community is the melting pot of the melting pot and within us is the kernal for every solution to every problem faced by mankind.  I remember a pride parade a number of years ago with a contingent of Middle East Lesbians and Gays celebrating and waving the flags of every Arab country of the world.  And there in the middle of that group, celebrating with the rest, was a man carrying the flag of Israel.  I remember thinking....  no where else in the world...

Regardless of our differences, we're all part of the solution.  I for one really appreciate your efforts.
