>>Unfortunately, those who believe that the ignorant should shoulder the responsibility for unlearning their beliefs are both morally correct and, from a practical standpoint, entirely wrong. Hi everyone. Oh now it's the gods of genetics and the gods of the greeks that are lining up against us? Lions and tigers and bears Oh My :) Is there any part of this tragic-comic opera that we might have possibly missed somewhere? What is there about these issues that we have failed to understand? I'm serious about this question. Is there some fine point of human existance that gay people are incapable of understanding, in particular regarding the relationships of the forces that compels this kind of prejudice and hatred to even exist at all?
I agree with what Quirk said here. I don't think we should come asking hat in hand for what is our birthright. I wouldn't give one inch of ground to people who would deny our very right to exist. I too have read Sun-Tzu and Clauswitz, and what you dear Galahad are doing is sowing the seeds of defeatism, mixing soothing words with imbeded messages like "antithetical to the survival instinct". You also played the I know you want children and unhappy people cards. Do you really think we haven't heard this kind of double speak before? You really should check out some of your assumptions. "The efficient expression of DNA into the next generation.". Is this the science version of Sister Mary Ignatious?

Well it did :) Your views on genetics and the message of futility and gradualism that I "felt" in your posts could have been hatched right out of a right wing Christian think tank as a psychological warfare tactic (they do after all talk about guerilla warfare and stealth tactics in the political realm). I think some of them still feel a requirement to defeat some kind of enemy for their Lord.
But then don't ever ask me to change. You see I am just a genetically programmed machine and can't help myself. I am after all only a animal incapable of ever being more than an automaton and will defend to the death my hatreds and inate inherited instincts, fears, and pre-judgements mostly because I am so afraid and survival is the only thing that matters to me. I am not responsible for anything of course because it's all instinct and the only thing in my soul is a desire to please my creator. Please do not ever expect me to grow into more than I am now, so make sure that you set the bar real low so that I will never have to take responsability for my actions or feelings. After all since I am a helpless victim of this programming someone else will have to fix everything for me without me ever having to feel a thing or lift a finger except to point out those who make me feel uncomfortable;).
I don't believe this. Do you?
I think I understand the basis of your argument, but since the god of genetics, who is ruling this house, is firmly grounded in external physical reality, in that sense it is probably a sound argument. It assumes however a static inner reality that is incapable of changing except thru a long painful process of evolution, and I disagree with it if for no other reason than that is "antithetical" to my own world view.
>>Sister Mary didn't teach science at my school. She ran the cafeteria.<<
Perhaps the menu is being expanded a little:) I dealt with an awful lot of people in the last five years . Don't underestimate their potential to grow or their desire to change the way things are.
