Subj:  Beyond the field of Compassion?       95-08-25 21:55:00 PDT

>>I just want you and other to consider that maybe having only that perspective is no longer necessary.<<

Can we ignore suffering it as long as it exists?  The Yogi identifies with the light and departs, the Christian dreams of the heaven of the second coming, but it is Buddha under the bodhi and Christ on the cross that symbolize compassion and the central themes of human suffering.    Shared suffering.  From the American metaphorical landscape:

"It is for us the living rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced."

>>I'm not saying human life is not important.  I'm saying that's just  one part of the beautiful picture.  The problem I have is that I forget that people can easily use the things I'm trying to say to excuse unexcusable actions.  I only desire that we take a look at things in a different light, to see what it might hold.  What can this hurt???<<

I am very much in favor of mankind individually and collectively looking in things in a different light :)   But I am not a religious leader for good reason.  It is the diversity of beliefs and experiences that is the harbinger of freedom, and I think there is a magnificent future before us.  Some people believe in reincarnation, others believe in resurrection, some believe in souls of energy and light, others do not.  With freedom as a central tenant of my own beliefs I cannot and will not limit or channel the hopes and  dreams of others.  Your vision is a beautiful one and I support your gathering similar minded people together.

To truely be heaven it seems there should be as many visions of heaven as there are people.  For Fundamentalist believers a joyful reunion with god, for Hindu's cycles of reincarnation each one more magnificant than the last.   Or two of my favorites, one from the Declaration of Independence and the other from Tennis Shoe ads...

"Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

and

"No fear, no hate, no limits... Anything is possible."

and then of course from Field of Dreams:

"Is this heaven?  No this is Iowa.  Funny it seemed like heaven."
